There is a kind of waiting that only makes sense when the end result justifies every year of preparation. Hermès acquired the site at 166 New Bond Street back in 2009 and dedicated seventeen years to the project — a pace that says more about its philosophy than any advertising campaign ever could. While the luxury industry moves ever faster, Hermès operates on a different timescale: one built for decades, not seasons.
The building already carries its own history. A series of interconnected Georgian townhouses, mostly built in the early 1720s, it housed jeweller Asprey for over a century before becoming Hermès’ newest home. There is quiet power in choosing to preserve the memory of a place rather than erasing it: the house adds its own story to one that already existed, layer upon layer.
The finished space, opened on June 16th, is defined by its extraordinary scale. It holds 55 distinct rooms and some 500 artworks arranged like a small village within a single store, designed by the office of architect Norman Foster. The previous shop at 155 New Bond Street served London with care since 1975, though limited to just two floors. Now, with four full retail levels, the city receives a flagship worthy of its standing, mirroring the importance long given to Paris, a natural expansion of a bond that has spanned generations.
Every space follows the same craftsmanship that defines the brand. There are dedicated areas for leather goods, bags and accessories, alongside fine jewellery, watches, fragrances and home objects. It also includes private salons, consultation rooms and a cultural space designed to host exhibitions and events. Every detail is crafted to welcome visitors with the same warmth and care Hermès is known for worldwide.
